Houping Xiao is a tenure-track assistant professor in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University. He is a primary faculty with Institute for Insight. He got his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He also holds a Bachelor of science degree in Statistics from Beijing Normal University.

His research interests lie primarily in data mining and machine learning, especially for large-scale heterogeneous data. He is generally interested in deep learning, text mining, and optimization and their applications in business and education. His work has been applied in Fintech and computerized adaptive testing (CAT).
